Our Process
1. Getting to Know Each Other
Browsing our website and Instagram is a great way to explore our work, but the best way to experience our kitchens is to visit us in person. Over a cup of tea or coffee, your designer will guide you through our design studio in Lincoln. We’ll talk you through our ethos, products, and design process, giving you an insight into Katie Brown Kitchens. But most importantly, we’ll take the time to get to know you. Every kitchen project is unique, and we love hearing about your ideas and plans for your home. If you’d like to move forward, we’ll then arrange a visit to your property.
2. Home Measure
This stage allows us to fully understand your space and begin creating a bespoke kitchen design tailored specifically to you. This can either be carried out with a home measure, typically arranged within 2 weeks, where your designer will take detailed measurements of your proposed room or if your home is not yet built, they will request your architect plans to work from. At this stage, your designer will discuss in more detail your requirements, how you envisage the space working and any ideas you have so far. Every customer and each project is individual. We typically work within Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
3. Planning and Design
Before the design stage begins, we encourage our clients to consider how much they would like to invest in their kitchen. Having an initial budget in mind helps your designer create a kitchen design that aligns closely with your expectations from the outset. Following your consultation, your designer will take up to one week to produce detailed 3D kitchen visuals and plans, created to the exact dimensions of your space. We will then invite you back to our design studio in Lincoln, where we’ll present the design and make any refinements needed to ensure it feels completely tailored to you. Our focus is always on design, never on pressure. You are welcome to attend as many design meetings as you need until both the layout and the investment feel right.
4. Going Ahead
Once we have gone through your non-obligation comprehensive quote in detail and decided that Katie Brown Kitchens is the right fit for you. We provisionally schedule in your installation around our workshop availability and your diary. Our usual lead time from this phase is 3-4 months from deposit. To secure a slot, we ask for a 40% deposit. Which is refundable within 28 days should you wish to change your mind. It is at this stage where we can release all of our plans and measurements. We are more than happy to liaise directly with your tradesmen when and if necessary.
5. Finalising and Scheduling
Around 8 weeks before your kitchen installation, your designer and project manager will carry out a site survey to ensure the space matches the approved plans. At this stage, it’s essential that all walls and ceilings are fully plaster boarded so we can confirm accurate, final measurements. If this information isn’t available, the installation date may need to be adjusted. Following the site survey, your designer will update the plans if required and issue your order confirmation, detailing all agreed specifications and choices. Once signed, your project manager will provide a clear schedule of works, outlining key dates for trades, delivery, and installation.
6. Manufacturing
This is where we go a little quiet whilst we are busy in the background placing your order into the manufacturing phase. This stage typically takes around 8-12 weeks and from this point it is not possible to make any changes to the cabinetry due to it being in production. We are still contactable if you have any questions or want any kind of advice on the finer details of your kitchen space. We enjoy being involved on every aspect to make it all come together seamlessly.
7. Installation
When it comes to installing your new kitchen as standard, we offer a dry fit installation where we install cabinetry but leave the plumbing and electrical work up to your tradesmen with the help of our project manager giving detailed working drawings. We strongly advise using our fitters to ensure that you end up with the best finish possible. A typical install takes around 4-6 weeks from start date to final snagging. During the installation your project manager will be at hand to oversee the project and to answer any questions you may have.
8. Aftercare
At Katie Brown Kitchens we believe that the aftercare service is as important as the design and installation process. Once your kitchen is complete, we don’t like to consider that as the end of our relationship, we remain on hand for any questions or help that you may require. On top of this, we provide excellent warrantee as we are confident that our product is made to last. As the buyer, you have a lifetime guarantee on the carcasses, 10 years guarantee on the doors and 25 years guarantee on the worktops.
